TDK Innoveta Environmental Approach

The Environment

TDK-Lambda recognises its duty and responsibilities towards promoting a sustainable environment. Our policy is to comply with applicable global legislation and to follow TDK Corporation Environmental Policy which goes beyond mandatory International laws. In particular, our focus is to ensure that hazardous substances are not present in harmful levels in either our products or our manufacturing processes and to ensure that our consumption of valuable global resources are minimized. As a designer and manufacturer of DC-DC converters we have a vital role to play in helping our customers minimize their consumption of these resources. We are committed to a policy of continuous improvement, innovating more efficient products to minimize power wasted through power conversion so consuming less electricity, with greater power densities to reduce size lowering material consumption and reducing the amount of fuel expended in their transportation.

TDK Innoveta RoHS Compliance

TDK is a worldwide leader in making products and processes safe for the environment. With comprehensive policies in place throughout design, material management and manufacturing, TDK Innoveta is well positioned to support customer needs for compliance to worldwide standards, such as the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive 2002/95/EC. This Directive restricts the allowed concentrations of 6 hazardous substances:

  • lead
  • mercury
  • cadmium
  • hexavalent chromium
  • polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
  • polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE)

    Product Status

TDK Innoveta has been shipping fully RoHS complaint products since early 2005. To assist customers with their control of inventories, TDK Innoveta introduced a "-R" suffix to differentiate RoHS certified products from earlier, lead-bearing stock. As of April 1, 2006 (date code 0614), all TDK Innoveta standard products are being manufactured as fully RoHS compliant.

    RoHS Certificate of Compliance

TDK RoHS products are all backward compatible, meaning they are suitable for use in SnPb solder processes or Pb-free solder processes.

    Materials and Manufacturing

RoHS materials are carefully controlled and segregated at the factory through the use of unique part numbers. Procedures are in place to verify incoming material before release to the RoHS storeroom.

For TDK Innoveta products, RoHS conversion of components generally only involves eliminating Pb. None of the other five restricted materials were ever identified as present in the products. For RoHS components, TDK Innoveta selects devices which incorporate suitable tin whisker mitigation practices.

    RoHS Conversion of Components

TDK Innoveta has qualified SAC (SnAgCu) solder paste for use in RoHS assembly.

    Qualification

TDK Innoveta RoHS products have been evaluated through a series of process evaluation and qualification tests, including AST, thermal cycling, and NEMI standard tin whisker testing. Contact TDK Innoveta for further information.

    Identification

The part numbers of TDK innoveta devices that are RoHS compliant include the suffix "-R". For clarity, this is shown both on each individual product and the outer packaging. This outer packaging is additionaly marked with the RoHS indication.

Comply with all applicable legal, regulatory and corporate requirements and, if it is deemed appropriate, adopt more stringent standards for the protection of the environment and the community in which we operate.

Identify, monitor and minimise the Environmental impact associated with the manufacture of our products and seek to prevent any pollution from our operations.

Develop products that are safe to use, make efficient use of resources, and which can be reused, recycled and disposed of safely.

Appoint competent people to assist us in meeting our statutory duties including, where appropriate, specialists from outside the organization. Be frank and open, making this policy and our Environmental performance publicly available.
